It's not every day that a national television crew comes to your workplace, but that is exactly what is happening at STI next week. We are excited to announce that we have been chosen to be featured on "Informed," an award-winning program that highlights innovative concepts and groundbreaking organizations through short-form documentaries on public television stations. Informed is hosted by the well-known actor, Rob Lowe.
Informed aims to create unique, engaging and forward-thinking documentaries that are strictly educational in nature and presenting them in 1 minute, 3 minute and 5 minute segments to audiences in all 50 states. The estimated viewership for a single 3-minute segment on a public television station in one year is 60 million households! Additionally, a 1-minute commercial segment will be broadcasted 50 times on networks like MSNBC, CNBC, CNN or Discovery.
Informed approached STI in early 2017 about being featured and we eagerly accepted after realizing the high caliber of the show. Some of the past guests include: Colin Powell (US Secretary of State), George H.W. Bush (41st US President), Richard Levin (President of Yale University), Joe Gibbs (Former NFL Coach) and C. Everett Koop (Surgeon General of the US).
Informed is selective about who they choose to be on the show, because they truly want to educate their audiences on organizations and individuals that are not only making a huge impact on their industry, but on the lives of many, many people. Below are a few of the topics that will be discussed on STI's Informed documentary:
1) STI is one of the few domestic upholstery textile mills left in the United States that is successfully operating and expanding after a significant share of upholstery manufacturing moved overseas. Manufacturing is not dead in the USA and STI is a shining example of that!
2) The introduction of Revolution Performance Fabrics and the impact this innovative product has had on the marketplace. The science Revolution fabrics is groundbreaking not only for the upholstery industry, but for the end consumer.
3) Consumers have become more concerned about the environmental impact and the health risks associated with the products they have in their home. The fact our fabric contains NO PFC's is huge and educating people about the hazards associated with PFC's is incredibly important.
STI's documentary will have interviews with Sean Gibbons (CEO), Mark Hovis (COO), Rob Spillman (CEO of Bassett Furniture), Anderson Gibbons (VP of Marketing & E-Commerce) and signature designers, Kathy Dotterer and Glen Read. Filming will take place all day on April 12th throughout STI's office and mill. The final segments are scheduled to begin airing in June 2017!
... and sorry ladies, Rob Lowe will not be in attendance for film day :)
