How to wear a neck gaiter

What is a neck gaiter?

A neck gaiter is best descried as a tube of fabric meant to protect your neck and face from the sun or from cold conditions. On warm, sunny days, they protect the user from getting sunburned without the use of sunscreen. In winter, they protect the user’s neck and face from getting cold and wind burned. Neck gaiters are an amazing piece of clothing that help protect you from the sun and cold temperatures.

How to wear a neck gaiter?

The best way to wear a neck gaiter is to put the neck gaiter over your head and have the fabric pulled over your nose and ears. This keeps your face and neck from being burned from the sun in the summer. It also keeps your face warm during the winter months. People wear neck gaiters in the summer for sun protection rather than wearing sunscreen. Another use of neck gaiter is to keep your face warm during winter. There are a lot of uses of a neck gaiter, and this blog is going to illustrate those uses.

Neck Gaiter Face Mask

Lately, the alternative use of a neck gaiter has been in face coverings due to the corona virus. These neck gators are usually worn under the user’s ears and pulled up over the nose. This covers the user’s full mouth and nose, without having loops wrapped around their ears all day. It is a convenient comfortable alternative than wearing a face mask in public. It is also easy to keep track of because the neck gaiter is pulled down and rests around your neck when it is not covering your face. It takes one hand to pull the neck gaiter up over your nose when walking into a store or a public setting. Consider using a neck gaiter instead of a face mask when going out in public.

Fishing Neck Gaiter

One of the best uses for a neck gaiter is face protection while fishing. Fishing neck gaiters have become extremely popular over the past couple years. On hot, sunny days, the ultraviolet, or UV, rays reflect off the water and can burn your skin. Sand, water, and snow can reflect 25-80% of ultraviolet rays. These rays are directed back at your face when fishing your favorite spot. One of the best alternatives to sunscreen is using a fishing neck gaiter. These neck gaiters cover your neck, and face to prevent sunburn. It is convenient, clothing based sun protection that does not need to be reapplied every two hours like sunscreen.

Cooling Neck Gaiter

One of the most desired neck gaiters is one that is cool during the summer months. These cooling neck gaiters serve as a summer alternative to sunscreen on your face. To have a cooling neck gaiter, you want to find one with a thin, synthetic fabric. This will allow more airflow through the neck gaiter to create a cooling effect. The thinner the material, the cooler the neck gaiter will be.

The material composition also matters when choosing a neck gaiter that need to be lightweight and cool. You will want to find a neck gaiter that stays cool and absorbs little to no moisture for your neck gaiter to be effective. Usually synthetic fabrics have the best of both worlds when it comes to water absorption and tend to be lightweight. They dry extremely quick if they get wet and are breathable.

Did anyone think these can be useful for covering up a 2" long scar leftover from a scalpel crazed dr. left in my neck from melanoma skin cancer removal. (This is the deadly cancer you can die from.) I now must cover the scar as the sun can damage and make it worse looking than it already does. :( I’m thinking of buying a couple gaitors.

The “Gilt” site spells these as “gaitors” so I have had a hard time finding what they were
talking about. Did not relish the thought of an alligator wrapped around my neck.

Love these neck gaiters. I don’t like heavyweight neck gaiters that are hard to breathe through. The Revolution Neck Gaiter is lightweight and protects my face from UV rays. There is also no hem on either end which other neck gaiters can be itchy on my face.
